About the 1769-CRL3
The 1769-CRL3 is an option cable used with Allen Bradley’s 1769 CompactLogix family of controllers. This cable enables implementation of I/O banks or modules installed on a separate chassis remote from the processor. This cable specifically allows Right bank to Left bank expansion up to 3.28 ft (1m) distance. I/O module banks are implemented when a 1769 chassis cannot accommodate a larger number of I/O requirement. I/O banks are used to physically install the 1769 I/O modules to serve the additional I/Os. Communication between each bank is maintained through a bus extension cable. The 1769-CRL3 cable may be used to do extensions from Right to Left bank, a CPU to an I/O bank or I/O bank to another I/O bank. The 1769-CRL3 cable extends the communication bus but not the power supply. Ensure that each bank has individual power supply. Verify the controller capability as some controllers support Two (2) I/O banks while other controllers support Three (3). When inserting the cable, remove power before enabling connections. An electric arc may occur if the cables are inserted under power which may cause wear and tear to the contacts creating resistance or immediate damage to another module. The 1769-CRL3 is a passive device which should be a low maintenance component. In cases of repeated loss of communication of a certain bank, verify the presence of power supply and connections. Ensure that contacts are clean and not loose. Splicing of the communication conductors are not recommended. Consider replacing the cable if the problem persists.
